Award-winning design agency Ferrier Pearce has teamed up with KOKO to assist the charity, Attitude is Everything in its quest for improved access to live music for deaf and disabled people.
Attitude is Everything aims to improve deaf and disabled people’s access to live music by working with the music industry, audiences and artists to implement a Charter of Best Practice across the UK.
Venues which sign up to Attitude is Everything’s Charter commit to reaching improved levels of access and staff awareness. Venues and festivals agreeing to take part in the scheme are assessed by mystery shoppers. An action plan is then produced demonstrating how access can be improved, and once it is in place, the venues are officially approved and receive a charter certificate
Ferrier Pearce helped in the process by designing the certificates, which went out to the first 55 venues and festivals that achieved either bronze, silver or gold standards. All new music venues and festivals that sign the Charter will be given the certificates as they are approved.
Tracy Hamer, Ferrier Pearce Client Relationship Manager, said: “KOKO, the music venue has been working closely with Attitude is Everything and they approached us to help. Believing in the Charter we [Ferrier Pearce] offered our services free of charge and KOKO agreed to fund the printing. We were more than happy to do this as it is a great charity and helps both venues and disabled people who want to attend. It’s not just a one way street for either KOKO or ourselves and we were both keen to help everyone for the greater good.”
The charity started out as a pilot scheme in 2000 as a response to deaf and disabled people’s desire for better treatment at music venues, clubs and festivals. They had found there was a lack of awareness in the music industry of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and its obligations, so Attitude is Everything set about redressing that balance.
Gideon Feldman, Attitude Is Everything Project Manager, said: “We are really excited that Ferrier Pearce has designed a certificate for us, as previously, we have only had been able to recognise charter venues and festivals with our poster. Now we will be able to use both the poster and an individually printed certificate that recognise each charter venue or festival’s achievement. The certificate will also be publicly displayed which in turn raises the general public’s awareness of Attitude is Everything and how our Charter of Best Practice improves deaf and disabled people’s access to live music. Thank you Tracy and Ferrier Pearce for all your time in producing a fantastic piece of design work for us.”
